RGB Ellipsoid
From TechSlop
Some moons ago I got to playing with defining a sphere in colour space. The distribution of colour values are generally more conducive to a sphere. I eventually took it a step further with defining a ellipsoid in 3d space. This is basically a sphere that you can stretch along the three main axis.
This isn't exactly the greatest in RGB for photographs, but it works really well when used on specific renders from a 3d application. If you have a space render of an object, this will do something much like a volume select. If you have a normal render, it will be more along the lines of faux lighting. If you have both, you can ChOps then together to confine faux lighting to an ellipsoid volume of the 3d object. Being able to do these things in a 2d application really tickles me pink.
I actually put the base formula for a 3d ellipsoid together in two different ways. One is Absolute and the other is Relative. Sometimes one is better than the other and sometimes the difference is negligable.
